Frequently Asked Questions

What's the maximum weight a scooter can carry?

Every scooter is different when it comes to weight capacity. There are scooters available with weight capacities ranging from 250 lbs. to 500 lbs. It is recommended to choose a scooter that matches the driver's current weight. Carrying more than the recommended weight capacity can greatly affect the scooter's performance.

Can you buy a battery that will last longer and will allow me to go a longer distance on a full charge?

This all depends on the scooter. There are some scooters that have the ability to upgrade the battery to allow you to go further distances on a full charge. However, this is not available on all scooters. We recommend looking over the battery specifications of your scooter or call us and we can compare scooter models.

How often should I charge my battery?

This depends on how often you use your scooter. If you are using your scooter for daily use, we recommend charging it overnight. We highly recommend never leaving the house without a fully charged battery. It is also a good idea to always bring your battery charger with you when you leave the house just in case you find yourself in a situation where you need to recharge.

Can you take a mobility scooter on a plane?

Nowadays any scooter that is identified as a travel scooter is permitted on an airplane. However, every airline has it's own set of policies. We highly recommend contacting an airline before you travel to confirm.

Can I take my scooter in the grass and on uneven surfaces?

We recommend using all travel scooters on hard, even surfaces and not using them on grass or uneven surfaces for long periods of time. If you are looking for a scooter to use primarily on grass, gravel and uneven surfaces, we recommend looking for a mid-sized (https://pivotalcare.com/collections/scooters/mid-size-scooter) or full-sized (https://pivotalcare.com/collections/scooters/full-size-scooter) scooter with larger tires, suspension and a higher ground clearance.

How far can I go on a full battery charge?

This depends on a number of factors including the scooter type, battery type, driver weight, inclines, and overall temperature. Please check the scooter specifications to see the "per charge range" for the specific scooter you are looking at.

Which mobility scooter is best for travel?

The two types of scooters that are best for travel are the folding scooters and the ones that allow for disassembly. Foldable scooters reduce down to a compact shape, stay all in one piece, and can easily be transported in a similar fashion to a suitcase with wheels. Scooters that allow for disassembly usually break down into five parts (seat, battery casing, rear wheel section, handle/tiller, and basket). Can I drive my scooter on the road?

These devices are intended to provide pedestrian mobility. In the USA your scooter should not be used on main roads. The scooters should be kept on pedestrian pathways such as sidewalks, crosswalks, and walking paths. When no sidewalk or path is available you may use the roadway as any other pedestrian would.

Do I need a drivers license to operate a scooter?
